Winston Y. Yap, MD
Winston Y. Yap, MD, is an experienced Family Practice Physician with more than 30 years of clinical experience spanning primary care, emergency medicine, long term care, home health, and rural medicine. Throughout his career, he has remained committed to providing comprehensive, patient-centered care while building long-term relationships with patients, families, and the communities he serves.
Dr. Yap has practiced family medicine at Bedford Family Practice in Kentucky since 1997, providing comprehensive medical care across a broad range of acute and chronic conditions. His extensive experience in community-based medicine has given him a strong foundation in preventive care, chronic disease management, diagnostic evaluation, medication management, and the coordination of care for medically complex patients.
His background also includes significant leadership experience within hospital and post acute care environments. Dr. Yap has served as President of the Medical Staff at Carroll County Hospital and previously served as Medical Director of Bedford Health Care Center and Caretenders Home Health Agency. Earlier in his career, he practiced emergency medicine and provided medical care in rural and underserved communities throughout both the United States and Canada.
In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Yap has maintained a longstanding commitment to medical education. He has served as faculty with the University of Louisville Department of Family Medicine and the University of Kentucky College of Health Sciences Physician Assistant Studies program, contributing his clinical knowledge and experience to the education of future healthcare professionals.
Dr. Yap earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alberta in Canada after completing undergraduate studies in chemistry and biochemistry at Oklahoma State University. He subsequently completed a rotating internship and additional residency training in pediatrics. His academic career also includes clinical research and multiple peer-reviewed publications addressing diabetes, thoracic outlet syndrome, pressure injury prevention, and quality improvement in long term care.
Through his work with Post Acute Clinical Services, Dr. Yap is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based medical care that promotes clinical stability, strengthens continuity of care, and improves quality of life for residents. He supports coordinated in facility care delivered 7 days a week by the provider network.
